A Large Gouache on Paper Landscape Scene

Painted in the manner of a 16th Century Oudenaarde tapestry cartoon with a rolling, wooded foreground and chateaus set among the mountains in the distance beyond a river. Painted to mimic a tapestry, this piece may have been used as a cartoon (the template used when weaving a tapestry) or may have been made to hang as a work of art in its own right. Now backed with linen and mounted on a wooden stretcher.
