18th Century Iron-Bound Trunk
A padouk trunk standing on substantial bracket feet. Bound with iron strapwork that wraps around the dove-tail joined corners. The iron strap hinges are secured by dome-head bolts that extend through the top. The corners of the lid are protected by iron plates. With heavy weight iron lifting handles on each side. Retaining the original iron hasp and loop so that the contents could be secured with a padlock. There is an original square patch to the top. Retaining an outstanding patinated surface and color. There is evidence of a till compartment which was formerly fitted into the interior. Restoration to the feet. Likely made by Europeans in the Colonial East Indies.
