Hand-painted ‘mise-en-cartes’ or point papers. These were the templates used to create woven textiles. Pencil drawn grid lines represent the warp and weft. The margins contain hand written instructions for the weaver pertaining to color, preparation of the loom, etc. Most bear labels indicating the pattern name and cataloguing information from F. Vanoutryve & Cie, a major textile manufacturer originally based in Mouscron, Belgium. Other examples of point papers can be found in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, and The Philadelphia Museum of Art among others. Priced and sold individually. Frame sizes range from 44" x 33" to 26" x 21".
