Carved Rosewood Armchair
A solid rosewood armchair in the manner of Gillows, Profusely carved throughout. The crest rail features a central tablet and dramatic scrolls at each end. The front legs carved with linen folds and ending in reeded bun feet. Covered in old leather. A pair of side chairs of the same model but with parcel gilding sold at Christie's London, June 9, 2011. The carved motifs evident here are reminiscent of the 'Grecian Baroque' commissions that Gillows was producing around this time, notably for Glynllifon and Wentworth Woodhouse.
