A pair of walnut side chairs on four cabriole legs. Currently covered in a Rose Tarlow velvet. This particular design with the scroll at the top of the leg that extends into the seat rail, the acanthus carved knees, and scrolled toes is typically attributed to London maker Giles Grendey. This particular pair of chairs have been re-railed so that they are sturdy and suitable for everyday use. Several identical examples can be found in the auction record including a pair that sold at Sotheby's New York April 4, 2007; lot 151.
