Six George III Period Giltwood Armchairs
A set of six giltwood armchairs in the Hepplewhite taste; the cabriole front legs are carved at the knee with a subtle anthemion and flow directly into an undulating, molded seat rail. The oval, padded backs are outlined with a beaded frame. The twisting arm support terminates in a scroll at the knuckle. The elegantly drawn lines belie the sturdiness of a chair that is ready for use. Recently covered in a blue silk damask. Re-gilded.
